Acceptance of applications for participation in the V International Violin Competition named after Yu.I. Yankelevich has been announced

The acceptance of applications for participation in the V International Violin Competition named after Yu.I. Yankelevich starts today.

The prestigious Violin Competition, the Honorary President of which is Vladimir Spivakov, People's Artist of the USSR, will be held in Omsk from May 22 to 29, 2020 in accordance with the Order of A.L. Burkov, Governor of Omsk Region.

As in previous years, violinists of two age categories are invited to participate in the Competition: the junior age category - participants from 9 to 15 years old, and the senior age category - participants from 15 to 25 years old. At the same time, 15-year-old participants can declare their participation in any of the age categories as they wish.

Participants of the Competition will compete for cash prizes and the main prize of the Competition - an old violin of the Italian master Giulio Degani, made in 1901. The oncoming competition also provides for the presentation of a special prize – a bow of the French master Joseph Arthur Vigneron. Moreover, the Regulation of the new Competition provides for the possibility of awarding the main and special prize to a participant of any age category.

The Jury of the V International Violin Competition named after Yu.I. Yankelevich consists of world-famous violinists and teachers: Boris Kuschnir (Austria), Professor of the Vienna University of Music, Professor of the Graz University of Music and Performing Arts; Elisabetta Garetti (Italy), Concertmaster of the Orchestra of Carlo Felice Opera House; Koichiro Harada (Japan), Professor of the Manhattan School of Music, Professor of the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo; Weidong Tong (China), Professor of the Beijing Central Conservatory; Alexander Muralev (Russia), Artist of the Omsk Academic Symphony Orchestra, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation. The Chairman of the Jury is Mikhail Kopelman (USA), Professor of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, People's Artist of the Russian Federation, USSR State Prize Laureate.

Applications and video materials for the selection round of the Сompetition are accepted from November 1, 2019 to January 31, 2020. Participants can fill out an application on the official website of the Competition yankelevitch.com or sent to: info@yankelevitch.com. All applications and video materials provided by participants shall comply with the programme requirements contained in the Regulation on the V International Violin Competition named after Yu.I. Yankelevich.

The candidates who have been selected and admitted to participate in the main programme of the Competition will be announced on February 21, 2020. A total of 32 candidates in two age categories will be selected to participate in the face-to-face rounds of the Competition.
